Setting LG Displays to Game Mode
This guide shows you how to turn on Game Mode, called Game Optimizer on newer LG TVs, to reduce input lag and processing delay on sim displays.
Prerequisites
- A newer LG TV running webOS 6.0 or later (roughly 2021+ models)
- TV powered on, with its input already set to the sim PC
- LG remote
Steps
1. Open Settings
2. Scroll and Open All Settings
3. Go to General
4. Select Game Optimizer
5. Toggle it on
Verify It Worked
Once enabled, a small on-screen quick menu should appear whenever a game-type signal is detected, letting you adjust:
- Game Genre presets (Standard, FPS, RTS, etc.)
- VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), if the source supports it
- Black Stabilizer / White Stabilizer
If this quick menu shows up, Game Optimizer is active.
Common Issues
- Full effect not applying at higher resolutions: Check that HDMI Deep Color is set to On for the specific HDMI input in use (Settings > All Settings > General > HDMI settings, naming varies by model year). Without this, Game Optimizer may not fully engage on some signal types.
- Screen still feels laggy/choppy at 30fps: Game Optimizer does not change the refresh rate of the incoming signal. It only reduces the TV's own processing overhead. If a display is stuck at 30Hz, that's a Windows/GPU output setting, not a TV setting. Fix it on the sim PC: Windows Display Settings > Advanced display settings (or Display adapter properties) > select the monitor > confirm the refresh rate is set to 60Hz.
- Older LG TVs (2020 models, webOS 5.0): The setting isn't called Game Optimizer, it's called Instant Game Response, found under Settings > All Settings > Picture > Additional Settings > Instant Game Response.
